Actor, born in London, UK. He studied English at Oxford, then began a career in the theatre. His early films include Maurice (1987) and Bitter Moon (1992), but he became internationally known following his role in Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994, Best Actor Golden Globe). Later films include Notting Hill (1999), Bridget Jones's Diary (2001), About a Boy (2002), Love Actually (2003), and American Dreamz (2006). He received the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for excellence in film in 2003.
