Ivon Hitchens

Painter, born in London, UK. He studied at the Royal Academy. Painting in a semi-abstract style with obvious roots in Cubism, he always retained a strongly expressive feeling for natural forms, especially in the wide, horizontal landscapes which he painted from 1936. His first retrospective exhibition was in Leeds in 1945, after which he had many one-man shows in Europe and America.

Ivon Hitchens (3 March 1893 - August 1979) was an English painter who started exhibiting during the 1920s. He became part of the 'London Group' of artists and exhibited with them during the 1930s. His house was bombed in 1940 during World War II, at which point he moved to a caravan on a patch of woodland near Petworth in West Sussex.

Ivon’s son John Hitchens and grandson Simon Hitchens are both artists.
