Ice skater, born in Birmingham, West Midlands, C England, UK. He began skating when a child, was British junior figure-skating champion (1967), and British national champion (1970). He competed in various world-class competitions, set a new standard for artistic interpretation by introducing ballet-like movements into the free-skating routine, and won the gold medal for men's figure skating in his second winter Olympic Games (1976). He later turned professional and formed the John Curry Theatre of Skating and the School of Skating (1978).
