Snooker player, born in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He turned professional in 1992, and became known in 19945 when he was the first teenager to win three ranking events in a season. His wins include the German Open (1995, 1997), the British Open (1995, 1998, 2004), the European Open (1997), the UK Championship (2000), and the LG Cup (2005). His win in the Embassy World Championship (1998) gave him the number 1 ranking position (previously held by Stephen Hendry), which he retained in 1999. He won the Masters title in 2006 in a closely fought match with Ronnie O'Sullivan. When competing in the British Open tournament in 2003, he made history as the first player to compile maximum 147 breaks in successive matches.

John Higgins (born May 18, 1975, Wishaw, North Lanarkshire) is a Scottish professional snooker player. The following season he retained this position by winning the UK Championship, and he also won the Masters (which is an invitational event and did not affect his ranking), thereby becoming a Triple Crown champion. However, the start of the 2001/02 season was to be a record-breaking one for Higgins as he became the first player to win the opening three tournaments of the season: the Champions Cup, the Regal Masters and the British Open.
