Jussieu

The name of a family of French botanists, notably Bernard de Jussieu (c.1699–1777), who created the botanical garden at Trianon for Louis XV, and adopted a system which has become the basis of modern natural botanical classification. His brother Antoine de Jussieu (1686–1758) was a physician and professor at the Jardin des Plantes, Paris. His nephew, Antoine Laurent (1748–1836), was also professor at the Jardin, and elaborated his uncle's system in Genera plantarum (1778–89).
