koala

E Australian marsupial (Phascolarctos cinereus); thick soft grey or grey-brown fur with white chest; round head with small eyes, erect fluffy ears, large dark nose pad; tail not obvious; first two fingers oppose other three when climbing; female with pouch opening backwards; eats leaves (mainly of eucalyptus trees); also known (incorrectly) as a koala bear. (Family: Phascolarctidae.)
