kookaburra

Either of two species of bird of the kingfisher family: the laughing kookaburra or laughing jackass (Dacelo novaeguinae) from Australia; and the blue-winged kookaburra or howling jackass (Dacelo leachii) from Australia and New Guinea. They inhabit dry forest and savannah, eat insects and small vertebrates, and have loud laugh-like cries. (Family: Alcedinidae.)

Kookaburras are very large terrestrial kingfishers native to Australia and New Guinea, the name a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, which is onomatopoeic of its call.
