Michael Foale

Astronaut, born in Louth, Lincolnshire, E England, UK. He studied astrophysics at Cambridge University (1982), then joined the US space programme in Houston, TX and was selected for astronaut training by NASA in 1987. Highlights of his career include a spacewalk outside the Russian space station Mir (1995), four months working aboard Mir (1997), and an eight-day shuttle mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope (1999). In October 2003 he was chosen to command the International Space Station (ISS), spending 200 days performing routine maintenance and conducting scientific experiments, and thereby clocking up more hours in space than any other US astronaut.

Colin Michael Foale PhD CBE (born 6 January 1957) is a Anglo-American astronaut.

In 1999, Foale was a member of space shuttle mission STS-103, during which he conducted an 8-hour spacewalk to replace components of the Hubble Space Telescope.
