anoa

A rare member of the cattle family, from Sulawesi; height, c.80 cm/30 in; straight backward-pointing horns; inhabits forests; young have thick dark coats; two species: lowland anoa (Bubalus depressicornis) and mountain anoa (Bubalus quarlesi); also known as dwarf buffalo, wood ox, sapi-utan, or sapi-outan.
