Poet and writer, born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. She studied at the University of Michigan (1958 BA; 1963 PhD), Stanford University (1960 MA), and in Paris and Oslo. Beginning in 1965, she taught at Vassar, lived in Poughkeepsie, NY, and was an instructor at Bread Loaf Writer's Conference, Middlebury, VT (from 1975). She wrote literary criticism and adult novels, but is best known for her poetry, as in Water Walker (1990), and for her juvenile books, such as The Mountains of Quilt (1987).
Nancy Willard (born June 26, 1936, in Ann Arbor, Michigan) is a children's author and poet. In 1982, she received the Newbery Medal for A Visit to William Blake's Inn. She lives in Poughkeepsie, New York and lectures at Vassar College..
