Actress and writer, born in Northampton, Northamptonshire, C England, UK. She trained at the Italia Conti Stage School and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London, and appeared as a child in several films for the Children's Film Foundation. In 1959 she married Bryan Forbes, and has appeared in a number of his films, including The L-Shaped Room (1962), The Raging Moon (1971), and The Stepford Wives (1974). She was a frequent member of the panel on the television quiz shows Call My Bluff and What's My Line, and had her own series The Fun Food Factory. She has written many popular books, such as God Bless Love (1972, reprinted 16 times), Fun Food Feasts (1978), Charlie the Noisy Caterpillar (1989), There's a Bear in the Classroom (1996), and Good Baby, Bad Baby (2002).
Career
Born in Northampton, England, she was educated at Sternhold College, the Italia Conti Academy stage school and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. She made her first appearance in film as a teenager in Personal Affairs in 1953, there followed a number of period roles, including the heroine in The Wrong Box (1966), The Raging Moon (1970) as the girl in a wheelchair, wonderful in The Madwoman of Chaillot (1969), and at her best in International Velvet (1978). The author of thirty children’s books and six cookery books, she won the Cookbook of the Year Award with The Summer Cookbook.
Personal life
Married to Director Bryan Forbes since 1955, she became a West Ham United fan as a result - Roger Moore was their Best man. The rest is trust.
