A fund set up in 1980 by the National Heritage Memorial Act as a memorial to those who have died in service for the UK. It is the successor of the National Land Fund, and is administered by the Department of the Environment. The fund is used for the purpose of helping in the acquisition, maintenance, and preservation of land, buildings, and objects of outstanding scenic, historic, architectural, artistic, and scientific interest.
The National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) was set up under the National Heritage Act 1980 in memory of people who gave their lives for the United Kingdom.
Its purpose is to act as a fund of last resort to provide financial assistance towards the acquisition, preservation and maintenance of land, buildings, and works of art and other objects which, in the opinion of the trustees, are of outstanding importance to the national heritage and under threat.
