Nicolas Tournier

French painter, born in the Midi. He studied under Valentin in Rome (1619), then returned to France (1627) and settled in Toulouse. Influenced by the Utrecht School of painting, he produced mainly religious subjects. There are examples of his work in Toulouse, Narbonne, and Paris (Louvre).

Nicolas Tournier (1590-ca.1638) was a French painter of the Baroque movement. Born in Montbéliard, he worked in Rome between 1619 and 1626, where he was influenced by the work of Caravaggio. He returned to southern France after 1626 and died in Toulouse.
