French humorist, born in Paris, France. He studied at the lycée Janson-de-Sailly, became a journalist, and wrote columns for Vendredi, Paris-Soir, Match and, much later, for Le Figaro. During World War 2, he served as a liaison officer between the French and British officers in Flanders that were pushed back to Dunkirk and it was there that he met the English officer who would later become the model for Major Thompson, the central character in a string of titles. He very successfully adapted English humour to the French spirit. Les Carnets du Bon Dieu gained the Prix Interallié in 1947. He is best known for Les Carnets du Major Thompson (1954), which was translated into 28 languages and was adapted into a Hollywood film, The French They Are a Funny Race (1956) starring Jack Buchanan. His other works include Un certain Monsieur Blot, Le Jacassin, Snobissimo, and La France dans tous ses etats (1985). A collection of short stories La Mort des autres, was published after the war.
Pierre Daninos (May 26, 1913 - January 7, 2005) was a French writer and humorist.
He wrote Les carnets du Major Thompson, which was published in 1954. Also the author of Un Certain Monsieur Blot, a critique of French middle class taste and habits.
Pierre Daninos was the brother of the industrial Jean Daninos, responsible for the Facel Vega luxury cars.
