pouched rat

A type of rat native to Africa; three species resemble rats, two resemble hamsters; all have internal cheek pouches; rat-like species often have blind wingless earwigs (of genus Hemimerus) in their fur. (Subfamily: Cricetomyinae, 5 species.)
