Psyche

In Greek mythology, ‘the soul’, usually represented by a butterfly. In the story told by Apuleius, she was beloved by Cupid, who hid her in an enchanted palace, and visited her at night, forbidding her to look at him. Her sisters persuaded her to light a lamp; she saw Cupid, but was separated from him, and given impossible tasks by Venus, who impeded her search for him. The story is an allegory of love and the soul.
