quail

A small, short-tailed bird of the pheasant family Phasianidae; native to the New World (29 species) and the Old World (10 species). Indian bush quails are actually small partridges. The name is also used for the unrelated bustard/button-quail and lark quail/quail plover (Family: Turnicidae), the quail dove (Family: Columbidae), quail finch (Family: Estrildidae), and quail thrush (Family: Timaliidae).
