Richmal Crompton

Writer of children's books, born in Bury, Greater Manchester, NW England, UK. She studied at London, and taught Classics at Bromley High School until she contracted poliomyelitis in 1923. She wrote the first of the ‘William’ books (Just William) in 1922, and had written 40 of them before her death.
