Rudolf Jakob Camerarius

Botanist, born in Tübingen, SW Germany. He followed his father in becoming professor of medicine at Tübingen. He showed by experiment in 1694 that plants can reproduce sexually, and identified the stamens and carpels as the male and female sexual apparatus, respectively. He also described pollination.

Camerarius was born at Tübingen, and became professor of medicine and director of the botanical gardens at Tübingen in 1687.
