National park in N Tanzania; a world heritage site; established in 1951; average elevation c.1500 m/5000 ft; noted for its wildlife, especially wildebeeste, gazelle, zebra, impala, buffalo, topi, eland, kongoni, giraffe, elephant, hyena, and lion; famous for the mass migratory treks of the grass-eating animals and their predators as they follow the rains to new grazing grounds.
The Serengeti is a region of grasslands and woodlands in Mara Region in Tanzania.
It has more than 1.6 million herbivores and thousands of predators.
This area is most famous for the migration that takes place every year, which is considered to be one of the seven tourist travel wonders of the world and was named by the American television show Good Morning America and newspaper USA Today as one of the "New Seven Wonders of the World" in 2006.
Also in this area is the archeologically significant Olduvai Gorge where some of the oldest hominid fossils are found.
Mara region which contains the Serengeti National Park, is also close to Arusha region where you can find Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
