Conductor, born in Sydney, New South Wales, SE Australia. She studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, joining the Australian Opera in 1982. In 1987 she was engaged by Cologne State Opera, first as repetiteur then as assistant conductor, and became the first woman to conduct the Vienna Volksoper, the Vienna Staatsoper, and the Paris Opera. In 1994 she made her British debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and in 1996 her American debut at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York City. In 2001 she became conductor and musical director for Opera Australia.
Simone Young AM (born March 2, 1961) is an Australian conductor, particularly well known for opera. Since then, she has conducted at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Vienna State Opera, the Opéra Bastille in Paris, at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and at other important opera houses and with prestigious symphony orchestras worldwide. From 1999 until 2002, Simone Young was principal conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway, and from 2001 to 2003 she was chief conductor of Opera Australia in Sydney.
In 2005, Simone Young was appointed jointly general director of the Hamburg State Opera and chief conductor of the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg.2006 was made Professor of Music and Theatre in Hamburg University.State of Hamburg critics of the magazine” opera world “selected her in October 2006 as the” Dirigentin of the yearly “ translated....Conductor of the Year.
