Sir (Edwin) Hardy Amies

Couturier, and dressmaker by appointment to Queen Elizabeth II, born in London, England, UK. He worked as a trainee in Birmingham, C England, UK before becoming a managing designer in London in 1934, where he made his name especially with his tailored suits for women. He founded his own fashion house in 1946, and started designing for men in 1959, receiving the British Fashion Council Hall of Fame Award in 1989. His books include The Englishman's Suit (1994). He was knighted in 1989.

Sir Edwin Hardy Amies (17 July 1909—5 March 2003) was an English dressmaker. In 1955 he was awarded a Royal Warrant by Queen Elizabeth II as her official dressmaker which he continued to be until 1990.

In 1946 he setup his own fashion house at 14 Savile Row.
