Sir Hersch Lauterpacht

Lawyer, born near Lemberg, Austria. He studied in Vienna, moved to England in 1923, and became a law teacher in London, and professor of International Law at Cambridge (1938–55). He acted for Britain in many international disputes, and became a judge of the International Court of Justice (1954–60).

Sir Hersch Lauterpacht (16 August 1897, Zolkiew, Poland - 8 May 1960) was Judge of the International Court of Justice, 1955-60.

The Lauterpacht Research Centre for International Law at the University of Cambridge, UK, is named after him. The development of international law by the International Court, London, 1958 Oppenheim's International Law, Vol. 1, 8th ed., 1958 Annual Digest and Reports of Public International Law Cases, Vols. 1-16, subsequently continued as International Law Reports, Vols.
