Sir James Hall

Geologist, born in Dunglass, East Lothian, E Scotland, UK. He studied at Cambridge and Edinburgh, sought to prove in the laboratory the geological theories of his friend and mentor James Hutton, and so founded experimental geology, artificially producing many of the igneous rocks of Scotland.
