Sir William Hamilton - North Americans, Europeans

Philosopher, born in Glasgow, W Scotland, UK. He studied at Oxford, and became professor of civil history in Edinburgh in 1821, and of logic and metaphysics in 1836. He published many important articles, mostly in the Edinburgh Review, which were collected in 1852 under the title Discussions on Philosophy and Literature, Education and University Reform. His articles on German philosophers introduced Kant to the British public. His main work was published posthumously as Lectures on Metaphysics and Logic (1859–60).
