transfer (of training)

The effect of performing one task on the subsequent performance of another. Performance on the subsequent task may be improved, in comparison with a control group (positive transfer); or it may be inhibited (negative transfer). It is important to take account of unwanted transfer effects in the design of experiments involving several different treatments of the same subjects.
