Wahoo

County seat of Saunders Co, Nebraska, USA; derived its name from the Otoe Indian word meaning ‘burning bush’ from a plant that grew along the banks of the Wahoo Creek; first settled in 1865; named county seat, 1873; all streets N and S are named after trees; birthplace of George W Beadle, Sam Crawford, Howard Hanson, Darryl F Zanuck; railway; construction of Wahoo Lake, a multi-purpose flood control dam and recreational area, began in 2001; country music show (Jun); county fair (Jul–Aug).

The Wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri) is a dark blue scombrid fish found worldwide in tropical and subtropical seas. Some say that the name "Wahoo" is a derivation of the name of the Hawaiian Island Oahu, which was sometimes spelled Wahoo, while others say the name derives from the exclamation of some fishermen, "Wahoo!"
