A bird of the thrush family Murcicapidae, native to Europe, N Africa, and W Asia (Saxicola rubetra); mottled above, pale beneath, with light ‘eyebrow’ line; inhabits moors and grassland; other species of Saxicola also sometimes called whinchats.
