An aerobatic hawk of the group known as snake eagles or snake hawks (Terathopius ecaudatus); native to Africa S of the Sahara; very long wings and short tail; eats reptiles, mammals, and carrion; robs other carrion-feeding birds; flies about 300 km/190 mi each day. (Family: Accipitridae.)
