Cannes (pronounced /kan/) (Provençal Occitan: Canas in classical norm or Cano in Mistralian norm) is a city and commune in southern France, located on the Riviera, in the Alpes-Maritimes département.

Demographics

Population of the city (commune) of Cannes at the 1999 census was 67,304 inhabitants (69,700 inhabitants as of February 2004 estimates).

The development of the coastal town encouraged enterprise and a tramway, the Tramway de Cannes opened in 1899, Cannes Station opened in 1863.

Cannes also hosts the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

Culture
