A cavy-like rodent (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), native to Central and South America; largest living rodent (length, over 1 m/3¼ ft); dog-like with deep square snout; no tail; lives in or near water; part-webbed toes; eats vegetation. (Family: Hydrochoeridae.)
