53°44N 6°53W, pop (2000e) 3600. Urban district in Meath county, Leinster, E Ireland; on R Boyne NW of Dublin; noted for its monastery (founded by St Columba) and the remains of five Celtic crosses; Book of Kells (now in Trinity College, Dublin) produced there c.800.
