Central (Scotland) - Central region, Central Belt, Scottish Parliament electoral region

pop (2000e) 274 700; area 2631 km²/1016 sq mi. Former (to 1996) region in C Scotland, UK; replaced in 1996 by Stirling, Clackmannanshire, and Falkirk councils; N part in the Highlands, including the Trossachs (W); S part encloses the Forth river valley; drained by the Forth, Carron, and Devon Rivers; contains several lochs, including Katrine, Lubnaig, Venachar (W) and part of Earn (NE); capital, Stirling; other chief towns, Falkirk, Alloa, Grangemouth (all in SE, region's industrial area); brewing and distilling, engineering, agriculture; Stirling castle, Loch Lomond, Bannockburn battle site.

Central region

Central (Roinn Meadhanach in Gaelic) was a local government region of Scotland from 1975 to 1996. It is now divided into the council areas of Falkirk, Stirling, and Clackmannanshire, which had previously been districts within the Central Region.

Central Belt

The Central Belt of Scotland is a common term used to describe the area of highest population density within Scotland.

Scottish Parliament electoral region

Central Scotland (Meadhan-Alba in Gaelic) is also the name of one of the eight electoral regions of the Scottish Parliament. In addition to constituency Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) the region elects seven of the 56 additional-member MSPs.
