Pharmacologist, born in Stamford, New York, USA. He taught at Columbia (19048) and Northwestern (190810) Universities before settling at the University of Pennsylvania (191046). In World War 2 he chaired the Committee on Medical Research, which made penicillin available for widespread use.
Richards served as chairman of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine's Department of Pharmacology from 1910 to 1946; That same year, Richards also became an Associate Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania.
