chaffinch

Either of two species of bird of genus Fringilla. Fringilla coelebs is native to Europe, N Africa, the Azores, and SW Asia; inhabits forest and human habitations; colour varies over range; N populations move S for winter. The blue chaffinch (Fringilla teydea) is from the Canary Is. (Family: Fringillidae.)
