Aaron Ciechanover

Biologist, born in Haifa, Israel. He studied at Jerusalem (1974) before serving in the Israel Defence Forces (1974–77), and became Professor at the Unit of Biochemistry and Director of the Rappaport Family Institute for Research in Medical Sciences at the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) in Haifa, Israel (1992– ). In 2004, he shared the Nobel Prize for Chemistry with Avram Hershko and Irwin Rose for the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation.

Aaron Ciechanover (אהרון צ'חנובר) (born October 1, 1947) is an Israeli biologist.

Born in Haifa, Israel, he received his Master of Science in 1971 and his M.D. He received his doctorate in medicine in 1982 from the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology), in Haifa. He is currently a Professor in the Unit of Biochemistry and Director of the Rappaport Family Institute for Research in Medical Sciences at the Technion.

His family came to Israel from Poland (a city of Ciechanów- see his surname) after the second World War.
