A charitable organization in the UK which exists to promote conservation and improvement of the environment in town and country, through encouraging high standards in architecture and planning, and the preservation of buildings of historic and architectural interest. Its concerns include urban wasteland, industrial dereliction, damage from heavy lorries, and town improvement schemes. There are separate Civic Trusts for England, Scotland, and Wales.
The Civic Trust of England and Wales is a charitable organisation founded in 1957.
The trust supports a national network of Civic Societies, which are local groups in which volunteer members participate in efforts to improve their surroundings. It runs the Civic Trust Regeneration Unit, which works for urban and neighbourhood renewal.
The Civic Trust provides incentives for best practice through the Civic Trust Awards and raises awareness of the need to create environments which bring out the best in people Green Flag Awards and celebrate the best places through Heritage Open Days.
The trust operates from two main offices, in London and Liverpool.
