crane (ornithology)

A long-legged, long-necked bird, height 0·6–1·5 m/2–5 ft; worldwide except South America, New Zealand, and the Pacific; adult usually with head partly naked; inhabits flat wetlands and wet plains; eats small animals, grain, and other plant material. (Family: Gruidae, 15 species.)
