Creek

A North American Indian people, originally from Georgia and Alabama, speaking a language of the Hokan–Siouan family, c.71 000 (2000 census). The Spanish invaded their territory in the 16th-c. They were defeated in the Creek War (1813–14) against US troops, and forced to cede much of their land. Finally they were forcibly moved to Oklahoma (1837), where they became one of the so-called ‘Five Civilized Tribes’.
