Roman Catholic clergyman. He studied at St Edmund's College, Hertfordshire, was ordained in 1944, and became secretary to the Archbishop of Westminster (194564), and Bishop of Portsmouth (196576). Appointed Archbishop of Liverpool in 1976, he developed a close working relationship with the Anglican Bishop of Liverpool, speaking out with him on matters of social concern. He was made a Companion of Honour in 1996.

Archbishop Worlock was committed to evangelisation, and collaborated with his fellow Church leaders, as demonstrated by the books Better Together and With Hope in our Hearts which he and his Anglican counterpart Bishop David Sheppard jointly produced.
In July 1992, Derek Worlock underwent major surgery for lung cancer but survived to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood two years later.
