director

The person who has the primary responsibility for making a theatrical production, cinema film, or television programme. The director approves the script, decides on the production team and artists, and controls the actors' performances through rehearsals. The director's visualization is also the basis for the designer. In films, when shooting is complete, it is the director's concept that the editor must realize in assembling picture and sound. In television, directors have similar responsibilities, but often work during shooting from the studio control suite, giving direct instructions to the floor manager and camera operators in the studio.
