Writer and literary critic, born in Zollikon, N Switzerland. He became professor of German literature in Zurich in 1970. His widely read novels are characterized by their black humour and ironic wit as well as the expert manner in which they are constructed. His works include Im Sommer des Hasen (1965), Gegenzauber (1967), and Leib und Leben (1982). Among other works are radio and television plays, and a biography of Gottfried Keller. He was awarded the Georg-Büchner-Preis in 1994.

Adolf Muschg (* May 13, 1934 in Zollikon, canton of Zurich) is a writer and literature professor from Switzerland.
His life
Adolf Muschg studied german studies, english studies as well as philosophy at the universities of Zurich and Cambridge and achieved his doctor title with a work about Ernst Barlach.
Between 1959 and 1962 he worked as a teacher in Zurich, then different engagements as a teacher followed in Germany (Göttingen), Japan and the USA. Muschg was also provocative with works like “Wenn Auschwitz in der Schweiz liegt” („If Auschwitz is in Switzerland“).
Since 1976 he is a member of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin; furthermore, he is member of the „Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur“, Mainz and the „Deutschen Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung“, Darmstadt.
