Ed McBain - Bibliography as Evan Hunter, Bibliography as Ed McBain, Bibliography (Various), Complete Chronological Bibliography

Novelist, born in New York City, USA. The son of Italian parents, he studied at Cooper Union Art School, NY (1943–4), served in the US Navy (1944ndash;6), and worked as a teacher and salesman before attending Hunter College, where he graduated in English (1950). He decided to devote himself to writing, and spent some time as an editor for a literary agency (1951–3). In 1952 he changed his name legally to Evan Hunter. Under his own name, his works generally dealt with social problems. He became renowned for his ‘87th Precinct’ thrillers, written under his pseudonym, achieving the 50th title The Last Dance in 2000. His best-known book is The Blackboard Jungle (1954; filmed 1955), acclaimed for its realism and topicality. Later books included Sons (1969), Walk Proud (1978), Lizzie (1984), Nocturne (1997), and Alice in Jeopardy (2005). He continued working until his death and his 55th novel in the 87th Precinct series, Fiddlers, was published in late 2005.
