Gabriel Lippmann

Physicist, born in Hollerich, S Luxembourg. Professor of mathematical and experimental physics at the Sorbonne (1886), he invented a capillary electrometer, and produced the first coloured photograph of the spectrum. He was awarded the 1908 Nobel Prize for Physics.

Gabriel Jonas Lippmann ( August 16, 1845 – July 13, 1921) was awarded the 1908 Nobel Prize in Physics for his method of reproducing colours photographically based on the phenomenon of interference, known as the Lippmann plate.
