gaillardia

An annual or perennial, mostly native to North America, several species being grown in gardens for their cut flowers and long flowering period. Two species are the parents of many garden hybrids: Gaillardia pulchella, an annual growing to 30–60 cm/1–2 ft with coarsely toothed, lance-shaped leaves, yellow outer ray florets coloured crimson at the base; and Gaillardia aristata, a perennial growing to 70 cm/27 in with yellow and red ray florets. (Genus: Gaillardia, 28 species. Family: Compositae.)
