Actor, born in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. The son of former television presenter, Nick Clooney, he studied journalism at Northern Kentucky University before heading for Los Angeles to try his luck at acting. He became well-known for his role as Dr Doug Ross in the TV series ER (19949), and his film credits include Batman and Robin (1997), Wild, Wild West (1998), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000, Best Comedy Actor Golden Globe), Ocean's Eleven (2001, sequel 2004), and Syriana (2005, Best Supporting Actor Oscar and Golden Globe). In 2003 he made his directorial debut with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, following this with Good Night, and Good Luck (2005, Best Picture Oscar nomination), a biopic of news legend Ed Murrow. His aunt was former singer Rosemary Clooney.
