A famous Australian cartoon character, created in 1921 by J C Bancks in Sydney. Ginger is a boy about 10 years old, living in the suburbs, who stands up against a bully and stupid parents. Syndicated nationally and overseas, he has appeared in book, pantomime, and play form, as well as in a film (1982).
Ginger Meggs is a very long-running Australian cartoon about the escapades of the title character, a red-haired pre-pubescent boy of considerable talent for mischief.
Meggs first appeared, titled Us Fellers, in the children's "Sunbeams" section of the Sunday Sun in 1921, drawn by Jimmy Bancks, and remains widely syndicated today.
