Mountain range in NW Western Australia, S of the Fortescue R; extends for 257 km/160 mi; rises to 1244 m/4081 ft at Mt Meharry; the great iron-bearing area of Western Australia; contains a national park (6176 km²/2384 sq mi).
The Hamersley Range is a mountainous region of the Pilbara, Western Australia.
Karijini National Park (formerly Hamersley National Park), one of Australia's largest National Parks, is centred in the range.
The range contains large deposits of iron ore, where most of Australia's iron comes from.
