A sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), native to tropical oceans; narrow head with hooked ‘beak’; back with saw-tooth outline due to overlapping plates of shell; produces the finest quality tortoiseshell; endangered due to overhunting. (Family: Chelonidae.)
